She is, in part, being polite for the sake of giving herself something to focus on--having to keep her voice level, her words chosen with care and her demeanor controlled. It's a distraction for herself and one she's very familiar with. Familiarity is comforting, after all. Pippa is also trying very hard to remind herself that Rory isn't the only one with things to reveal and she'd be rather hurt (terribly so) if he reacted to her the way she's been carrying on. Granted, what she needs to share with him is...ordinary by comparison. Still, doesn't he deserve the very consideration she herself wants?
